The Ordinary Vegan - Sainsbury's Raspberry Jelly

It is always rare in a mainstream supermarket to find a gelatine-free jelly, and then when you occasionally do, they colour them with animal products making them unsuitable for vegans - boo!

Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised to find this jelly is Sainsbury's which contains real fruit and no animal products and is labelled as vegan - yay! Be warned they are high in sugar though.

These jellies can be found for sale in the kiosk area of the store by the take away sandwiches, newspapers and cigarettes. They are currently on offer 2 for £2 and they are so refreshing in this summer heat.

Vegan Recipe of the Week - Summer Sandwiches - MLT

Over the next few weeks on Vegan Vox Blog, I will be sharing a series of vegan summer sandwich ideas. Starting with a favourite in our house - The MLT (Mushroom, Lettuce and Tomato)

Ingredients:

A Portobello Mushroom
Beef Tomato, sliced
A Crusty Bread Roll
Tomato Salsa - see my recipe here
Sweet Gem Lettuce Leaves
Olive Oil

Method:

Slice the bread roll and spread the bottom half with the salsa and add the lettuce and tomato. Griddle the mushroom in a griddle pan with a little oil, turning over half way until cooked on both sides. Add the cooked mushroom to the sandwich, top with a little more homemade salsa and serve with a salsa dip or a few mixed olives.

Eat and Enjoy!

The Ordinary Vegan - Fruit Sorbet - Last Days of Summer!

Every Monday on TOV I look at everyday items from main supermarkets that happen to be vegan friendly. This week it is the turn of sorbet. Yes, I am trying to cling onto the last of these summer days as the schools go back and the leaves start falling, our minds and stomachs will start thinking about hot filling desserts, so before that happens, I'm going to talk about sorbet.

Many sorbets are made from fruit, juice and water only, which makes them low fat, vegan and refreshing. Sorbets come in many fruit flavours such as raspberry, mango and lemon. They are icy cold, thirst-quenching and delicious. A word of warning though, some sorbets do contain milk so please check and they can give you brain freeze!!

Please don't leave us summer - we miss you already!

These sorbets are from Tesco and cost £2.50 but it is easy to make sorbets at home too. If you like home cooked vegan food please visit the blog every Tuesday for the Vegan Recipe of the Week. Also every Thursday on Vegan Vox Blog is Vegan Vox Reviews...reviewing vegan shops, restaurants, products and more.
